Hello,
I am a member of another Infiniti forum. I ask this question not only in this forum but in the another one, too. The answer I got, in the other forum was the following:
"Yes, it usually happens with the oil gets to dirty. Changing the oil and filter, and resetting the light usually takes care of the problem. In rare occasions the sensor is damage and it needs to be replaced to repair the problem."
Now this was on my 2002 I35 Infiniti, which is the same engine as your Maxium 2002.
I have reset my light four times over the last six to seven months with my handheld reader. I have changed my oil once since this happen and it stayed off for a longtime, after erasing it. So....I don't know, you should get a reader, they are handy. You may want to buy one. Autozone under $80.00, mine was $69.99. It will read the code and let you erase it. Anyway, I am not saying that this is the answer, but it is the only one I have gotten from the forum's. The guy who answered was an Expert Infiniti Helper. look under the Infinifihelp.com. My post is on 02-02-2008.
Good Luck!
