I had a major P/S hose blowout about a week ago and nearly a fire due to the fluid blowing directly onto the exhuast, downpipes, and cat. It was a short HP hose running between the HICAS Control Valve? towards the front (banjo-to-straight fitting). I noticed that the low pressure reservoir-to-pump hose has a heat shield type wrap even though it isn't that close to the exhuast. The two hoses to the HICAS unit are within 2" of the exhaust and are not wrapped at all. This was a very difficult hose to replace, and least for me. P/S fluid has been flushed (dealer) about every two years and levels were kept up. Is failure of these hoses in this area common due to overheating? Would a similar wrap to hoses parallel to the exhaust help prevent this in the future? Anyone?TIA

A lot of H/P hoses these days, have a heat covering, if it is on the exhaust side.

It would do no harm covering your new one Or making up a heat shield.

Thanks ChallyI guess I already knew a heat wrap wouldn't hurt anything. It just seems that that Infiniti would have thought of this early on. A $176 OEM hose isn't worth the chance even though I had one made up at a local shop from my old fittings for $55. I'm still wondering if draining and bleeding the system on HICAS is any different than the standard steering process. I thought the HICAS solenoids only operate above 2000 rpm which would complicate refilling the system unless all 4 wheels can be turned during refill. Everything seems to work OK but I haven't drained the old fluid yet. My manual doesn't seem to cover the HICAS procedures that well. Again, thanks for the reply.
