p/m and rear defrost-wiring problem?

i got my 91 240 hatch almost 8 months ago and ever since i got it the rear defrost switch light was always lit, regardless if the defrost was on or not, and the power mirrors always worked. all the fuses were good too. yesterday i noticed that the mirrors wouldnt work and, coincidently, the defrost light was out also. this morning i pushed the switch to turn the defrost on, the light goes on and the power mirrors work. push the button again, the light goes out and the mirrors dont work anymore. what the hell. anybody got an idea of whats wrong here? all the fuses are still good.
