As I attempted to change my oxygen sensors, I encountered a serious problem with the passenger side one. I changed the driver side okay. Passenegr side: I managed to losen it and had about 3 turns. Then all of a sudden it has some resistance. I decided to give a good turn again from the top. That's where everything went wrong. It became so hard to turn so I applied some pressure hoping to turn it a little. As a result, I think I might have stripped it. it won't come off. I know there's another piece that the sensor is bolted on to...can that be removed? How difficult is it to remove that piece? What tools will I need? Thanks!

Hmm, ive never had a problem like that. That nut that the o2 sensors screws into, screws into the exhaust manifold. I have no idea how hard it is to get that thing out. My guess is itd be a B!$@# to remove, mainly because its probably rusted/fused in there, as well as its hard enough to get in that area.

Personally what I would do is keep goin at it until it comes out then you can re-evaluate what you have to do... that may not be the best move, but at least you konw where you stand without wasting more time than you have to...

What type of tool are you using? I recall that I had very good luck with a 16pt. flare style crow's foot. The 8pt. did not work well. The standard oxygen sensor socket was a complete bust.

Are you saying you stripped the threads in the exhaust tube? If so, yes - I have done the same thing. The part that you stripped out is a bushing that threads into the pipe, so you're ok. Infiniti of Scottsdale sells them... actually I have a few spares in my garage, because they messed up and sent me the whole package - then decided it wasn't worth it for me to return the extras.

Let me know if you have trouble finding one...

Good luck!

Part of 90 day or at least annual maintenance is squirting PB Blaster on exhaust bolts/seams and O2 socket so when the time comes life is easy.

Treating Rubber with Wurth Spray and moving parts with Silicone all done during the 15 minute oil drain.

I probably use $10 worth of sprays at every PERSONAL oil change.

maybe I wasn't getting a good angle on it. I'd get my friend to come over and help. I'd get under the car and guide the crowfoot while he turns from the top. Hopefully that'd work.

no...I think I stripped the thread on the O2 sensor itself. I wanted to know if the one attached to the pipe (the one O2 sensor is bolted to) can be removed.
