So my motor (S13 Blacktop) was finally reassembled only to find out that one of the head stud holes was stripped out. Helicoil isn't really an option, so this only leaves 2 choices.

1) Say "screw it", buy a bare block, have it bored for my 87mm pistons, and put it together.

2) Go with oversized headstuds.

Option 2 definitely seems like a MUCH more cost effective option, so now I'm on the lookout for someone who would sell one head stud that is just a little larger than the originals.

Reason for me posting this thread is I'm looking for opinions on why this COULD be a bad idea.

Of course, a response will be posted stating exactly what I ended up using. If any of you have had to do this, please post up with what you used.

UPDATE:
I found out that Mazworx sells 1/2" headstuds for $225. I'll be contacting them Monday to find out the price of just one.

Call up the guys at Maz and run the idea of oversized studs to them. They'll help give you a good and solid advice on what to do. I would ask them if it's better to bore and tap each of the stud holes out instead of just the one. I would be worried about uneven torque application to the decking surface with just one larger diameter stud.

Thanks for your insight, Bart. I'll bring that up to them on Monday and see what they have to say.

I would agree with bart, if you do one then do them all, to keep the pressure the same all the way across the head, and the larger head stud may require a higher torque which when hit will make it impossible for the ones around it to reach there torque.
Get ahold of the guys at mazworx, or just checkout their website, a larger head stud means drilling the head also, so you want someone competent enough to make sure the holes still line up correctly.

But why isnt helicoil an option, personally that is probably be my first choice, they make the stud strobger by having more surface area to grab.

Cause they tried a helicoil and it didn't hold on the 50ftlb pass... I've never liked the idea of them on a headstud. I've seen them fail with spark plugs, let alone trying to hold the head down.
