Has anyone tried this? I've been skimming through http://www.bobistheoilguy.com and came accross many people who have used a larger oil filter on their car since some filters have the same specs but a larger can. People have noted that a larger filter increases holding capacity and improves oil flow due to the greater media surface.

Just curious if anyone has done this or knows what size would fit since the versa is short on room anyway.

Fram filter is 6607 for the versa so u can try 7313 which is the same thread just longer.

I found some awesome info over at http://www.bobistheoilguy.com leading to something amazing I found!

I advise everyone to check it out. They are testing the same size filter as the versa and have cut open 15 different brands so you can see the quality of the design. Absolutely amazing!

I am going for the Purolator L14610 which is the exact same specs as the OEM, but is a bit longer providing more surface area and lets the engine flow more oil before reaching the "bypass mode" if you will.

Can't wait for my next oil change. Got some Pennzoil Ultra 5w30 and gonna get an oversize filter.

Just changed the oil today. I used the oil filter that is used on the nissan titans. So far no problems and now she holds a little more oil.

I'm using Pennzoil Ultra this time around!

New to this thread, but what is the outcome of going to a larger/longer oil filter for the versa?
Whats the best one to use and what are the stock numbers?

Really no point if you're not racing. Daily drivers don't need more oil capacity.

I am not really interested in more oil capacity but rather more filter capacity.

More surface area, more media, maybe could go longer on drain interval dependent on type of oil used and quality of oil.
I agree tho, that more area means greater surface for contaminants. I`m sure the OEM or equivalent small filter does the job with the recommended drain intervals of 3700 miles.
I will try this on the next service...

Also I found at my local Canadian Tire, the longer 7317 CTfilter is a buck cheaper than the 6607!
That said, I got 300000km+ on my Sentra using standard 6607 Fram filters.

true. I paid 8 dollars for the shorty compared to 6 and change for the taller filter.
Hastings filter is a very good choice. as is Wix and Purolator.

I`m not a big fan of Fram, but also have the 6607 and 7317 on the shelf for emergency`s...
