I just picked up a 93 240sx se in pretty good condition for a grand. We were only able to get the car so far before it was over heating terribly. Its clear why the owner traded this car in. The over flow tank even boils after a reletively short running time. It very much seems like the head gasket has an internal leak. But i'm also concerned about the water pump. It seems likely the water pump might be out, and the over heating resulted in a blown head gasket. I'm sure other owners have had similar problems. Also if anyone knows if a bad pump can actually make grinding noise while its running. There is a sound near the front of the motor that seems like it just should not be there. I have long wanted a 240, but i cant say ive ever been in one with a KA24. When you really stomp it there is such a high pitch intake sound. Could that have something to do with a vacuum leak, or is that just their intake note? Any help would be much appreciated. I'm tryin to get a hold of a leakdown tester, but i think i should just assume my head gasket is out.

DJ do a search of the 240 tech forum and the articles section. You will find pretty good advice for all your concerns ,there even some on your issues here in mechanic forum.

alright yeah thats cool, and yes actually i did notice white smoke yesterday when i was warmin her up with the radiator cap off to see if i was gettin any bubbling in the system. I shouldn't have even wasted your guy's time because yesterday i picked up a leak down tester and i'm gonna check to see if i cant get some collant shootin out of the radiator. My next question is, when i have to do the head gasket, what other gaskets am i going to need. Because i am assuming i'm going to need to take off both the exhaust and intake manifolds, what else do i need? Also if this job is gonna turn expensive real fast (ie water pump, a heap of gaskets, and whatever else might come up) i'm just gonna get the Silvia front clip and swap. Also then i wouldnt feel as bad about doing a front end conversion, because i need to fix some head light problems.
