I recently replaced my timing chain componets. While I had the car apart I changed the belts and the termostat. Now I cant get the car to run with the thermostat in without overheating. When I take it out the car does fine. But the heater is really slow to heat up in the morning. I have tried letting it idle with the top off even tried to put some pressure on the radiator with a water hose. I checked the water pump while I had it apart and it is fine. Does anyone know the trick I am missing here?:help :help

did you install the thermo correctly? the pin should be at the top, at the 12 oclock position. i messed that one up before and got the same thing you have.

yah theres a pin-like thing at the top, i think its called a jiggle valve or somethin like that.. but yah it has to be at the top. some thermos have "top" imprinted next to it. first time i replaced mine i put it in upside down and experienced the same problems that you have. good luckEDIT: make sure to get all of the air out of the cooling system after you replace it

Make sure you bleed the air out of the system really good!

Are you opening the bleeder valve when you are filling it with coolant and trying to get the air bled out?

I tried to turn it with the small stem up and it semmed to be working but after about 1mile it started to get hot. the bleeder at the top of the engine where the top radi. hose conects broke off. i have also tested the thormostat on the stove it is working even thought i can really tell at exactly what temp it opens. this is really begining to piss me off. i am going to lett it cool down and make sure the rad. is still full. the thurmosate would not open with the car idleing. kinda cold out

these cars can be really, really bad to bleed. Especially if the bleeder valve is broken
