Ok I have an 89 240sx (KA24E) and I just changed the water pump. When I start the car from cold, the engine warms up as usual but doesn't stop warming up. Just when the temperature gauge reaches the line second from the top, it steadys off then gradually falls. After a few minutes it will fall back down to regular temp, so it's not like I can't drive. But I'm concerned for my engine. Should I replace my thermostat?

That's your best option, and probably the cheapest. Just go ahead and replace it and see how your car handles from there.

Probably just air in the system, but if you want you could change the thermostat. It should be quite cheap.

most likely is the thermostat being stuck and unstuck at on point, due the fact that the gauge is move and not constantly going up

Ok I know there is a thread on here about how to change the thermostat on a ka24de, but in my engine the power steering pump is in the way. Any way around that? I really don't wanna have to take that off and bleed my steering system.

did you bleed the system after the water pump install? I think its just that you got air in the cooling system. Jack the front end of the car up, crack the cooling system bleeder screw, And turn the car on and let it run for a while.

If you didn't bleed it when you did the water pump, i'm pretty sure thats the problem. Just make sure you get all the bubbles out.

Ok I'm just gonna double check on the bleeding...-Jack up the front end of the car / park on a steep incline-loosen the bleeder screw (or take it right out?) and open the rad cap. -Run the car when its cold-add water to the radiator until water starts coming out of the bleeder-tighten bleeder and close rad cap

is this the way to do it?btw all of your help is much appreciated

90% of overheating in these cars comes from air in the system. glad you're back in business!
