Hey...Iam a High school student from northern ny, I bought a 93 240sx last summer and i love it to death. but i have a problem it keeps over-heating , so i checked my thermostat and there wasnt even one in it. So i went and bought a new one put it in and nothen, it would still over-heat so i changed teh waterpump and still nothen the 240 would still overheat after a few minutes of running it. The local autoparts said it sounded like a blown headgasket but i dont have any coolant in my oil . So the question iam asking is could it possibly be a plugged heater core or a clogged pipe in my coolant system..I really need some help on this i have about 700 dollars saved up to get the work done but i dont know if i trust the local autoparts so any help would be very helpful.Thank you for your time.

My aol screen-name is Stebo200 it would be nice to talk to somebody one on one about my probly if possibly....

it could be several things. to check for a blown head gasket take the radiator cap off and crank the engine if bubbles appear after a couple of minutes then the head gasket is bad. somthing else to look for is if it is the head gasket the silicate compound in the antifreeze would foul out the o2 sensor causing a rich fuel mixture. but before i did any of that i would replace the temp sensor on top of the intake.

Thanks for the info....iam going to my local autoparts ..autozone ect..and order a temp sensor..is it right on top on the intake manifold. ??

Thanks alot again.....this would be great if its just a simple sensor to fix..so i could take my cash and put it in some aftermarket stuff instead of draining my pocket on a head gasket job..

Well i went and bought a new temp sensor and radiator cap......Its not overheating physically..and the temp gauge is reading half on the the scale. So thats a good start but i still dont have any heat coming into my car and my top hoses on my radiator are hot but my lower one and my hoses to my heater core are all cold so iam wondering if the heater core might be restricting the flow of coolant. Would anybody now how much a heater core would cost and how hard of a job it is to replace it.

Thank you

If anybody has any suggestions you can also im me on aol at Stebo200.....

we here at pepboys dont sell one for the 240 you might want to try other auto parts stores or if all else fails go to the dealer. ive never had to put one in so i don't know the difficulty.

Well .....i think its my heater core ...iam wondering what you guys think.......my pipes to the heater core were ice cold and no heat coming out of my car...and the lower radiator pipes were cold......and the car ran for 20 minutes..but i took the 2 pipes ..one going into the heater core and the other coming out and i took the heater core out of loop....so i bypassed the the heater core.and the pipes all got coolant flowing through them now..and the lower radiator is full of coolant also now....so iam wondering could the heater core be plugged and stopping the circulation of coolant.......iam just wondering what you guys think.you all now so much and are a great asset to someone has green in automotive as myself.....Iam not getting any heat what so ever inside the car and it seems to have stopped overheating....?? iam in need of some help..

thanks alot.......

I could use an answer as well. I am another NYer without heat and have done pretty much all of the same things.

Stuck with a hot top hose and a lower hose that is cold. Temp is reading warm. No bubbles in the rad. No air coming out of the bleeder screw.

What can I do next?

The best I can do for you is to give you a link to AMS Machine. Not only will they have parts, but they can answer some of your technical questions!

Good Luck!

I took the thermostat out saturday and ran the car without it.

The lower hose got hot and there was now heat in the car! Yea!

I boiled some water at home and the thermostat opened after being in the hot water for a while. I exercised it some more. Boil dip boil.

So I am going to install it next weekend.

I am going to run into problems driving my car without a thermostat?
