to me, if coolant is by the starter it sounds like a Head Gasket. but you have to look for it. if you can take it some where were you can lift you car do it because the more that gets worst it will start leaking in your cylinders.

theres a couple hoses that are under intake mani. if have to use a little mirror and do a coolant pressure test.

Could just be the heater hoses. Don't be scarred off by talk of a head gasket leak.

It could be head gasket (BIG$$) or it could just be a bad hose (little$)

If you can't tell the differance then take it to a shop you trust.

if you wanna cancel this out check for white smoke out the tail pipe... and/or oil in the coolant or coolant in the oil. (check dipstick and coolant resevoir)

oh ya, I forgot that the heater core lines are also right under the intake manifold and next to the fire wall, mine leaked from there before so just took off the lines and got ruber plugs and clamps, and just pluged the inlet and outlet off the block.

Correct if he is leaking coolent into the combustion chamber.

Remember that in his case he has water on the outside of the block. It is rare but the head gasket could fail and leak to the outside and not into the cylinder.

you can rent a coolant pressure tester from advance for 140 bucks or so. you have 45 days, take it back, get your money back.
