It could be that you have air in your system or it could be that you have a cracked head. Probably just air unless you ran it way hot. There are a lot of writeups on how to bleed the system of air. The method i use is to take the thermostat out, Get a drill and a 1/8 bit and drill a hole in the 12 o'clock position on the thermostat. put the thermostat back in and fill with coolant. You will no longer have to worry about tryin to bleed it of air. Its what i have done to both of mine.

Check also if your bottom hose is hot or if it's cool the you thermostat is bad and the water not circulating. If with the thermostat it get hot by the time u reach the end of the street it's your headgastket. You can also run it with out the thermostat and see if it get hot, mine did that mine would boil as soon as i got at the end of the street, took the thermostat out and it lasted about a week and then the headgasket pop,oil all milky spark plugs cover in fuel,

make sure your fans are at full speed. mine looked fine until my mechanic put his finger in the way and stopped it.

Check the pressure on both your upper and lower hoses, you should be able to squeeze the hose and feel if there is pressure on either line. I had this same problem about a month ago and FREAKED out! I was also thinking it might be the head gasket. Sat in front of Autozone for like an hour squeezing hoses, and looking confused. I finally realized that the temp. needle would go all the way to hot before the thermo opened, then it would cool down, then heat back up again to hot, then cool down. Never did figure out the problem, but it went away. Its probably an air lock.
