Hi,

I have a 2003 M45 that has been running hot. It first ran hot about a week ago and I took it to a repair shop that replaced my radiator. They said there was a leak at the top and bottom of the radiator. My reservoir cap was replaced too since it had a crack in it and I was told this would allow unwanted air to continue to enter the cooling system.

The mechanic told me the air bubbles would eventually leave the system after I drove the car around for awhile but this didn't happen. My car continues to run hot...the temperature gauge fluctuates when I'm parked or at a light for a few minutes.

Someone mentioned that my fan was running slower than it should be and that I should get it checked out. After reading online about it, I saw something about fan fluid. Can anyone help me troubleshoot this problem? What do you think I need to check next? If you think it is the fan fluid, how do I add/check this?

The hydraulic fan fluid is what engages your clutch to run the fan - to simplify.
It is in a canister that looks like the power steering reservoir, but on the driver side of the engine. Youll see a little of it poking under the engine cover but you have to remote the cover to access it. Check the level in it to start off.

Have you tested the fans with 12V directly? If not, run 12V directly from the battery to the fans for a second and see if they both power on.
