I was driving last night and I got stuck in traffick, next you know my rpm is up to 1000 and my temp gauge is going up. I blasted my heater and it looked like it was helping but 5mins later it was going up again. I had to get off the nearest exit, one I got on the nearest exit my temp went back to normal. As I got home left the car idle for 2mins and there it is again.

Today I replaced the thermostat, but still with the same problems.:help

Did you buy the thermo from autozone?? or some other cheap car part place? The thermo's suck *** and most times make the problem worse. Do a search ont he topic there's plenty of threads about this :)

I apologize, it's just that I didn't see somebody with the same problem that stated their rpm went up.

When your car is cold... open up the radiator cap and look into the rad for buildup on the inside of the veins. Sometimes the anti-freeze starts to go bad and leaves a white crust in there. You could take the radiator out, and bring it to a shop that works on them. They can boil it out... pressure test it, and and repaint it. Usually this does the trick nicely if that was your problem. If you go through the expense and hassle of taking the radiator out and having it serviced.... make sure you flush the coolant lines, and refill it with new water/anti-freeze.

If that doesn't work.... check your clutch fan to see if it engauges when the car starts to heat up. It will always spin when the engine is on, but it should start to spin FASTER as the engine heats up. There is a small bi-metallic spring on the front of the clutch mechanism... make sure it is intact and not broken.

Anytime you open the cooling system on a KA, you introduce air into it. First thing you want to do is bleed it thoroughly, which takes a lot of time and patience. Jack the front end as high as possible, forcing the air pocket towards the radiator, and continue bleeding until there is NO air. You'll need to constantly add water and this will in turn add more air, but it's the only way to do it right. Make sure your fans are working good, there really isn't anything else, other than a bad water pump or clogged radiator.

Thanks for the info

It looks like the problem is fixed by replacing the thermostat, but now I noticed that my fan looks like it's always on. Is that normal?

Thanks,

But it looks like it's from the secondary fan. The one that's mounted on the radiator.
