ok. it all started about a year ago and been fightin it ever since. replaced water pump, thermostat, hoses and flushed radiator. Stil ran hot replaced therostat with three others and still no fix. Then the distributor crapped out. replaced that and it would no longer run hot but the needle likes to ride very high. close to running hot. then the check engine light came on. Had it read and it said the IACV was bad.

my question is woud the IACV going bad have anything to do with the engine running a hiher temp.

Just read your problem. I had the same problem a year ago with my 1995 pickup with the ka24 engine. It would run fine (but with the needle high in the range) for about 20 or 30 miles, then it would begin to overheat. Changed thermostat, water pump, flushed system, checked all hoses, pulled radiator, etc.

It turns out that it was the seat where the radiator cap seals. The upper radiator tank is plastic, and there were some gouges in the seat that kept the system from pressurizing. I found a flat washer about the right size, sized it with a grinder to fit exactly in the seat area, and fixed it in place with some silicone rubber to seal it good.

With no pressure, water boils at 212 and quickly leaves through the overflow. Pressurized at 13 psi, the boiling point goes up to 240, and your water won't cook out. It's been running perfectly for over a year now.
