I read thru post after post of overheating issues for about two hours this morning and proceed to burp my 240 before buying a new thermostat, for the simple fact the car had been running fine up until I drove it home after sitting all day at work. I jacked up my s14 and put it on ramps and opened the radiator and bleed bolt and began to fill it with 50/50 antifreeze until it began to burp at the bleed bolt when I got a steady stream of coolant I sealed the bolt. i continued filling until the radiator quit burping, shut that then filled the reservior to the line, everything looked fine and drove it out to the Expressway to heat it up, ran it for about 4 miles at 80 brought it home put it back on the stands and it began to burp again... and why not post a sticky about proper coolant addtion procedures to avoid an easter egg hunt...

Fill radiator with a 50/50 mix of antifreeze/water. Even if you don't experience freezing conditions, the antifreeze has anti corrosive properties. Start the motor, get motor to operating temp, water will circulate. Keep filling while using the bleed screw to release trapped air. To make things easier, dump one entire gallon of antifreeze in the radiator at first, then use a hose after, the mix will be close enough.

The motor needs to reach operating temp so the thermostat will open and coolant will flow through the entire engine at full flow. This will take awhile since you're putting in fresh cold water from a hose etc. So the process will need to be repeated 4-5 times to insure the vcoolant system is properly filled and bled.

Thats the way I've done it on EVERY vehicle I've owned. Once we get a few more replies, I'll sticky it.

Welcome to NICO by the way.

Well we have a limited number of moderators an admins, if you guys will let me know what links are bad and whatnot, I can edit or remove them as needed. But I'm not about to read through a bunch of threads just to see if they are good...

If you guys notice anything, just link it to me or bump it and say its a bad link etc.
