Whats up guys? Usually when I drive my car in regular traffic its okay. But when I get on the highway and drive for about 20-30 min the needle starts to creep up a little bit. It only goes about one line past the middle line and sometimes stays there. When I get off of the highway the temp goes back to normal. But when I open my hood There is antifreeze all over my damn radiator and my fans. The only place I see it could come from would be the radiator cap but I have replaced it with a brand new one. Also I have bled the air out of the system and it seemed to make it better and has not done it since but Ive been driving my car at night mostly. I am going to order a Griffin Radiator because the "upgraded" one I have is not much bigger than stock. I'm in this Texas heat and it has been real hot and humid lately.Would there be any reason it would throw antifreeze out like that? Or any suggestions as to what to replace or check? Thanks and sorry for the long post.P.S. I searched

is the overflow hose clamped down? when the radiator cap opens and allows fluid to pass into the overflow tank, it could be exiting there. Is it a brand new radiator, or is it a used one that's new to you?

What concerns me is that it overheats when you're moving, and not during stop and go traffic. when you're moving at highway speeds, you have plenty of air flowing over the radiator, unlike in a in town situation where at times you'll be sitting still, and the fan will have to work to bring air across the radiator.

The next logical step is the thermostat. . If it's gone bad, it may not be opening right, blocking off coolant flow, and allowing it to heat up during highway travel (knowing the way San Antonians drive in general, I'd venture to say you average around 85-95MPH on the highway).

Check out heavy throttle and see if they can't land you a new thermostat. If not, courtesyparts.com might be able to hook you up as well

Thats what I dont get as well, that it is exiting through the cap and not the overflow. It is a brand new radiator. My other friend has the same radiator but his doesnt shoot out through the cap. He has got the KAT. I'm thinking it may be the thermostat also. I'll try that to see if it helps. My speedo doesnt work but I think that is about average speed on the highway maybe a little slower. Thanks Tenkawa. :ylsuper

for the leaking portion. did you get an S13 or an S14 radiator cap? Hell, I don't even know if they differ or not. From the sounds of it, you have an S14 radiator in your car. They were slightly larger than the S13s. So it could be that the cap you got is the wrong size, but that's a far fetched guess.

Try the thermostat first and see if that fixes the problem. It could be that the pressure build up is too great for the cap and it leaks out through the cap instead?

I have a S13 radiator by CSF and I bought an S13 cap but I'm still gonna change the thermostat to see what happens.

SPL has the Billion 160 deg. thermostats in stock, they have higher flow rates as well. Excellent upgrade!
