Drove to school find today but when turned my car on to leave, the check engine light came on. I decided to drive it home anyways. I noticed the heat gauge was going up so at about the half way point I pulled over and popped the hood because the car was starting to smoke (white smoke) at this point.
I noticed it the smoke was coming from this area...

I tried checking the levels of the coolent and could find no trace of any...I was really annoyed at this point because I had taken the car to Jiffy Lube and they are supposed to check coolent levels. I attempted to put water in the coolent container with 16 once bottles...after 10 of them I noticed water was dripping from the bottom of the car.

I then put the water straight into the radiator and filled it up. I was able to make it home without the heat gauge going past the normal point. When I got home it was smoking from the same spot.

I guess I was just a little confused about why it was smoking from just that area...
If I had to throw a guess out there, I would guess it is a bursted coolent hose. Any thoughts? Thanks

It could be the hoses that run to the heater core. Check them they could have a leak which then drops onto the exhaust which then boils the coolant and as a result you see steam.

Hopefully you didn't let her get to hot. :ohno:

No, she didn't get too hot...the first time was close, but still not as bad as the first time it over heated. I first time it overheated I didn't realize it until the heat gauge and already hit the top...then I still had to get off the road and pull into a gas station. This time I was watching it the whole time.

It just sucks because we are literally broke right now...My wife just went back to work last week. She had been a maturnity leave and I have been going to school. My GI bill hasn't kicked in and we just ran out of money...

To make things worse, the master cylinder went out on my tempo on Thusday...I am down 2 cars in less than a week...

Isnt there a turbo coolant line in that area, I mean its just a small hose, you should be able to get to it by taking out the battery and tray.

Have you done the coolant bypass under the plenum?

You could try letting it idle and see exactly where the smoke is coming from
