soo, i have a leak in one of the coolant bypass hoses (i think thats what they are, the ones in front of the motor underneath the timing belt overs?) its gushing fluid after about 10 minutes of idle. is there any way of getting that hose off easily (not having to take the engine out) im expecting to have to take the radiator, and clutch fan out, but do i need to take the timing belt covers off too? thanks for the help, if someone has a writeup that would be amazing. i have been looking all over and the same result comes up, just telling me what the issue is, not how to fix it.

You'll have to take the timing covers off. If you take the radiator out, this becomes infinitely easier. After that, it's all just creative use of tools. On my roommate's engine, it was a PITA and we had the engine on a stand. Never hurts to give it a shot, though.

Link to the FSM portion of the timing belt procedure. It'll help out. :dblthumb:

Believe it or not, it can be done without taking off the covers, but it will make it easier. Once you get the hard pipes off, its just a matter of taking off the bypass hoses. Hopefully the clamps are not in a weird position, just remember, needle nose pliers are your friend. This also will be a good time to replace your thermostat.

thanks guys, i was able to do with without having to take the timing covers off, but the clamps where all weird, so it took forever. the hose was shot, i think the previous owner had replaced the other one, and now this one went, it was rotten and stuck to everything. but i got it off, now waiting for my girlfriend to pick me up to go to the parts store and get new gaskets, a new hose, and new thermostat. thanks for the help. made life easier
