Got a question for the more mechanicaly inclined of the group.

I am lookin at pickin up a second S13, guy is selling it in good shape for pretty cheap due to an overheating problem. Said he has recently replaced the thermo.. but the problem remains. The engine runs strong and normal with no smoking or power loss ( leads me away from the headgasget possibility)

Mechanical fan, so that is out too.. Could this be a radiator flush problem? Or maybe a temp sender? Anyone think this is still a useable car, let me know, I can get it for a deal..

more than likely he bought a cheap thermostat from autozone. Go to NAPA and buy one and replace it and see what happends. If that isn't the case you could try flushing the radiator and make sure there isn't anything blocking the airway to it and the condensor in the front grill.

also, search :) there's about 3 threads like this from the past couple of weeks

I had the same type of overheating issue- car was very hard to start when hot. Turns out it was in need of a radiator flush. Its not hard to do, and only takes an hour or so. Its worth doing even if thats not the cause of the problem.
