I have a 1991 240sx that has a very odd overheating issue. For some reason my car will begin to overheat and the needle will stop just below the H line and then shortly after the needle will fall back to normal. I have tried fixing this problem by changing the thermostat, water pump (twice), radiator cap, and letting air of the coolant lines but this problem still persists. I am complete confused and don't know where to go from here. . .

Replace your radiator I had the same problem turns out i had a leak in my radiator that only showed up when under pressure and running plus it was out of sight.

long story short eventually my radiator blew while i was going down the highway i never new it happend and then tick tick phishhhhhh I burned out my rings... dont let it happen its worth the $100 to be safe and not that hard to switch. I bet its the orignal radiator so its probley all cloged with gook and that will kiil cooling preformance..

FYI: If your gauge goes up to hot then drops to normal this can be caused by air in the lines air does not register as the corect temp and the coolant temp sensor is at the highest point in the system or damn near it. this can be very dangerous and can let you overheat and kill your engine with out ever knowing it... trust me it can happen thats what I did.

if after this happens you having to top off the system thats what it is. it really is overheating your gauge just cant read it. due to the air/steam in the lines this can form if the engine gets to hot like when its up near H...

beware....lol I am droping a new engine in my vert because of it...
