I had a problem with my D21 overheating and found that my fan clutch wasn't spinning freely, so i replaced that and it was still overheating. So my next step was the thermostat, changed that and flushed the cooling system but it still overheats. Could it be the radiator itself or did i crack the head gasket?

well theres a few ways to figure if you have a BHG (blown....)
1. do a block test. its an oder reactant dye that will tell you if you have exhaust gasses in your coolant.
2. cylinder leak down test. if you have a BHG you will hear air bubbles in your radiator.
3. 5 gas machine. stick it in the tail pipe and if your burning coolant it will make a certain chemical (im not sure the specifics on it)

and a way to check your radiator is drive it till it reaches op temp and turn it off. put your hands on the fins of the radiator and feel for cool spots. if you feel this. passages in your rad may be blocked off!

if all those check out fine i would try a new radiator cap. maybe a water pump. do you have a fan shroud?

is it over heating on the freeway or just at idle?

you need that fan shroud plays a big roll
star up the car and take off the radiator cap to check to see if fluid is flowing through
just make sure its not to hot so there isnt much pressure behind it

yes FAN SHROUD is a must.
and people under estimate the importance of a functioning rad cap. if you have not gotten a new one do so.

do you hear gurgling or burping from your overflow tank?

Shroud, go to junk yard for cheap on, yes NEW cap cheap. Then make sure you do not have an air pocket in system. That can cause over heating fast. Get shroud and cap if it still is running hot pay a shop to pull a vacuum on it and purge any air from the system. I have seen more folks get air in the block when changing out coolant parts. An air pocket will cause it to over heat.

Install thermostats with the jiggle valve at the twelve-o-clock position so trapped air can move through them.
