Okay.. I have a 2003 G35 sedan with 150K miles. The car started overheating so I took it to the mechanic.. per his recommendations I replaced the thermostat, radiator and belts.. so after $1K I assumed everything would be ok. Took car home and did not heat up. Next morning drove to work and on my way back home the car overheated again!! WTF.. took it back with the mechanic and after he did a test "under pressure" he's now saying it has a cracked head.. estimated $2500!!!... I took the car to another mechanic.. he said there was air in the valves and a bad water pump.. replaced it and after $500 the car is still overheating.. now he's also saying it has to be a blown headgasket.. Same mechanic is suggesting replacing the engine for one under 50K miles.. there's no white smoke or white stuff on the oil cap.. has anyone here had this problem?? what do you suggest?
thanks..

Sorry to hear about what happened.

I hope you paid the mechanic with a credit card and you have documentation of the work that he did.

Take the car to an Infiniti dealer for a written estimate. Dispute the mechanics charge on your credit card and request a charge back for poor and improper workmanship.
There is a factory flow chart for proper diagnosis of overheating which should have been followed. Guess work just doesn't cut it.
Long story but I learned this lesson about 10 years ago with my 88 Mazda 929 and no longer trust anyone but my Infiniti dealer to work on my car.

You may also want to consider a new car as it comes with all new parts and a warranty.

Good luck

I had a similar issue with my 2006 G35. Except that I didn't notice my engine overheating until I saw some smoke coming our of my hood of my car. Thankfully the smoke was just the coolant spraying on my motor. However I was not able to resolve the issue right away. I replaced the thermostat and had no luck. I looked over my radiator didn't see any cracks, but I only did a visual inspection. I think you can use some coolant die to locate any cracks. Any case, I put the old thermostat back in the car and refilled the coolant and then the car has worked normally ever since. The only thing I can think of is that there was air that got trapped in the coolant system, this was actually a thought from tollboothwilley. You might be facing a similar issue, hopefully :). I think the car is somewhat difficult to "burp." Which means the process to get the air our of the coolant system when you need to replace the coolant. Hope this helps.
