I followed the directions directly from the Nissan Factory Manual and also from the FAQ Board and for some reason the car is overheating at idle after a flush and fill. I'm pretty sure I followed the directions carefully, but the lower hose never got hot and after several minutes of idling the car's temp sensor went way up and the oveflow started bubbling. Now this has happened before and I replaced the radiator cap and it seemed to be ok, but that was after adding more water after the temp gauge shot up. Is there any foolproof way to flush and fill this car to avoid overheating issues? In other words to get the thermostat to open? Thanks.

You are probably not flushing right. There are probably bubbles in your coolant. Did you "shake car" left & right back & forth, and squeeze the coolant hoses while filling coolant, watching funnel, checking for bubbles, etc?

You can get something called ez flush (i think), that will allow you to get rid of air bubbles easier.

park the car on incline, so front is a bit up. and run it, open the cap for air bubbles to escape.

I do hope u followed the service manual, which can be downloaded here. search for FSM.

you also have to open air relieve screw on top, the one after upper hose.

Thanks, I'm sure it's air, I'll try out your suggestions. The suspension is VERY stiff so might be hard to rock up and down, I'll try jacking it up and lowering it as I refill it. Thanks.

i concur... we just had a chat about this:

zerothread?id=117902

now, if you're sure there's no air bubbles+ u ruled out that there are no leaks, then there might be a restriction either @ the t-stat or radiator... lower hose stayed cool (mebbe junk is restricting the t-stat)

double-checking for air bubbles vai air bleed valve is the 1st & easiest thing to go for.... good luck!
