i got a 2002 nissan pathfinder 4x4.i was parked today with my a/c on and my vehicle overheated [ past the 3/4 up mark on the temp gauge. it is usualy at 1/2] . i checked my coolant reservoir and it was completely fullwhile i drive with my a/c on the vehicle temp is fine and the reservoir is mostly empty. it only happends while im parked with the a/c on after about 15 min. witgout the a/c on the vehicle temp stays fine what could be causing this?

Your fan clutch, oil level, thermostat, radiator partially clogged inside and/or out, and probably a lot of other things.Look at your radiator cap and color of fluid. Check you oil and look and smell it. Check it cold in the morning.

Make sure all maintainece is up to par.

Since it happened in park, and gas cost so much, I cannot see leaving it running so long. This is hard for the engine because it doesn't have air flow other than the fan.

I do think it should be able to handle this, but the question is why. Now if it is 110 degrees out and you let it idle, then I think the truck is fine probably. But you might want to flush radiator if that hasn't been done.
