How much overheating can an 88 N/A Z withstand? My buddy had his overheat the other day and it took for ever to cool down. His temp gauge was not working so who knows how hot it got and for how long.

the vg30's are pretty overheating resistant. I've overheated mine a few times to the point where fluid was spewing out of the res tank (damn e-fans!) No harm done. Definately not 'good' for the motor, but if its running fine, not leaking, etc. you should be ok.

Just need to get the temp gauge fixed and find out why it overheated.

It turns out that the head is cracked.:( It looked like it was like that when he got the car though. He got a good deal so now he is looking for a motor.

the gauge was probably ok but there was no coolant in contact with the sender. this will give the illusion that its cool.

rough luck, this a turbo or N/A car? if it's N/A maxima or hardbody Longblocks can be used you just gotta move the dipstick, he might want to replace his radiator while he is at it, it took me forever to figure that rad was the source of my oveheating problems, I replaced the waterpump, thermostat and all the heater and rad hoses first
