I recently posted a thread about my heater hoses. zerothread?id=303661well i hooked them up yesterday and the heat worked pretty good.

today i went for a drive and realized the heat wasn't getting warm. A couple of miles later i started to realize my car smelled like it was getting hot so i pulled over and popped the hood. No visible leaks or anything BUT it was smoking from behind the motor. I drove it about a half mile to get it home and by then my temp gauge was all the way up. I also noticed a ticking sound when i hit the throttle.

Its cooling off right now. Im gonna tear into it here in a few. Any ideas?? thanks

sounds liek your heater core is clogged up . possible that theres a leak right before the heater core too.. might explain the smoke. does it smell like coolant? could be that theres a coolant leak.. like only dripping.. but enough to let air into the system but not enough to have a significant leak in coolant. meaning.. the coolant could be evaporating faster than it can be seen on the ground. hence the smoke..

let it cool down.. and check it out.

the heater core was loud. and the dash shook when then heat was on "4'' i just took a look at it again and it appears i have a very small leak with the hose on the firewall, just enough to spew some air. You think i could have hooked the hose's up backwards and caused any damage? thanks for the reply

well the thing about the cooling system.. its all one circle.. so if u installed it backwards... i dunno maybe it would just go all over instead of a uniform circle. so it would still cool the engine.. just not as efficiently i guess. sounds liek a clog tho. heater core is always a PITA. you could always try to flush it.. using like Presone Cooling System Flush.. then do a coolant flush.. then lift up the front end .. and burp the system real good. if the heater core clog isnt that bad.. .

hope it works out for u

thanks for the help. i will probably just hook it back like it was and not use heat. I will be pulling the ka out in a couple weeks or as soon as i get everything for my 1J swap. I have never had heat so I'm not to savvy on how it works. Should i consider getting a new heater core?? thanks bro

well i would say yess.. give it a thought.. it is the winter season after all. but to replace it.. god.. might as well just yank the damn engine out.. bc when you tear out the dash.. after all taht.. then put it back together.. theres always liek 20 screws left over and theres always some sort of rattle when you turn the fan on

but definitely consider it. .. or start dressing in layers.
