When the car is cold it runs strong and with no problems. Once it starts to warm up the car starts to bog, sputter and lose power, the valves or pistons not sure, start to ping hit against each other(sounds like when you put bad gas in your car and valves act up) then the car turns off evebry now and then while driving and then it starts to smoke whitish and smells like burned oil. I got out and checked the oil and was vanished like boiled and smoke came out of the dipstick tube. Now there is oil in the car is actually full i've checked. No water goes into the over fill tank. I let the car cool for a couple of hours and turns back up perfectly. I tried starting the car witht he radiator cap opened and no bubbles appeared at all just saw a bit of smoke come out, the car was cold. As it got warmer it start to smell like burned oil and the smoke coming out of the the radiator whole, where the carp goes. Then the noisy lifters or valves begin to play. all this happens and the needle doesn't go beyond it's middle normal range point, sometimes it does go sky high. I hope some one could help me with this problem. Thank you.

i actually have basically the same problem that you are describing. i have a '91 fastback 240 with a sr20det swap. i started smoking about 2 or 3 weeks ago and though i was just burning oil because of the smell. it usually only did it while i was idleing at a red light or parked.... however, in an effort to figure out what the actual problem was i took it to a mechanic, and he had several ideas....first being that my head gasket was goin on me, that would account for the white smoke, but you said that there were no bubbles to indicate that air was leaking. second, that it was a cracked header, and that condensation was building as it would int he case of a blowing gasket and was being burned as steam. third, i dont know if your injectors are hanging up, but mine are and the thought that they were loading up and spittin oil was a suggestion. lastly, i dont know if you are turboed, but they said that there may be oil leaking in my turbo. thats what they had to say for me...and by now you may have already gone to a mechanic and figured out what it is....if so...reply and let me know so i could try to diagnose my own car.....thanx

Possible stuck thermostat partially open or coolant flow restriction.
