Has anybody installed an overhead DVD player in their Rogue? I'm looking at getting one for the kiddos, and have it hooked into the headunit for dual-screen goodness. Searched all over google and here on NICO... can't find anything :\

Please help! wanna get some input :)

Maybe headrest monitors are a better option? At least you dont have to drill holes to your headliner, even risk of creasing it when running the wires...

sQash has it right. a rear facing drop down monitor will block your rear view mirror. headrests are the way to go for a clean, simple install.

Here's an excellent DIY video detailing how to install headrest monitors.

The headrest install seems too messy... plus having a 3 year old within arms reach of a monitor isn't such a good idea. He already trashed his portable unit :(

I've done overhead installs before, so I'm pretty familiar with it. Just was hoping to see pics of one installed in a rogue. The rear view to me is kinda useless anyways cuz how small the rear window is... I rely on my side mirrors.

I'll look at the headrests though. Always an option.

So you want the stock deck to mirror a dvd player/monitor that is installed towards the back for your passengers?
Why would you want to have a mirrored monitor set-up? Like would it be primarly used for long road trips? Or when youre stopped for a while?

Dunno man, seems no more involved than the overhead install process.

I would expect that your three year old will be restrained in a car seat, so the headrest unit should be out of reach. :shifter:

The in and out is what scares me lol. He likes to get in himself.

@ Minibus -- there's several different wiring options for me. I have a Pioneer In-Dash, so I have option A) Movie playing up front for the lady is mirrored to the kids in the back. Option B) Overhead has it's own DVD player w/ IR headphones for when he wants to watch his own stuff.

We road trip quite a bit. She has family in Corpus Christi, about 6 hours away and my family is in Phoenix, 13 hours away. Movies just make the trips go by so much faster.

Now to do some measuring... and run both options by the lady. Ultimately it's her decision, I can install either way. I love wiring/stereos lol.

I heard dealership charges up to 2K for 2 headrests monitor, you can get 2 iPads for half the price for that, you get a bigger screen and you can do much more than just watch the TV.

Lol, my 3 year old destroyed a $100 portable DVD player, I doubt he'll get an iPad any time soon ;)

Plus the monitors are $100-$200 on eBay, I'd be doing all the install work.

that's good that you'll be doing the install your self, that will save you a lot of $$$

I logged about ~8K miles last summer on road trips and very minimal kid meltdown because of the iPad :rotfl

edited so I don't sound like an iPad salesman :rotflmao

Not sure how techy you are but you could look into using a raspberry pi as a carputer media center. Not sure how well it would drive 2 monitors simultaneously but it would be nice to ditch the dvds and store 100's of movies on one sd card. This gives you the flexibility for different monitor types and placement.

I'll look into doing that. Right now I'm converting movies into .divx format and burning them as data on a DVD. Can fit quite a few as the file size is reduced to around 2-300mb. On a 4.7gb disc, that's not too shabby :P

I had a Pioneer AVH-P4300DVD in my Lancer, but it was stolen by some punks... I had movies on a flash drive there.
