'98 QX4. A couple of days ago, I noticed the overhead console display was out. I turned off the engine and waited a bit - no luck. I turned the dash brightness switch back n forth - no luck. Tapped it (easily) a couple of times - no luck. Watched it for a couple of days to see if it was a fluke - no luck.

The kicker: The display shows all of the icons when I start the car - then it goes out.

Any ideas? PLEASE!?!?!? (At least the car runs fine...) Thanks!

have you pressed the small black button on the display?

My display has three setting.... fahrenheit, celcius, and OFF completely. Pressing the button just rotates between these three settings. Maybe you have it turned off?

Hmmmm...I believe the button says 'reset'? Since it wasn't working, I pushed it a couple of times the other day. BTW, the display came back on yesterday... Maybe because I pushed the button. I really don't recall seeing the display immediately after I pushed the button.

Thank you, fueler! Appreciate your assistance!

One more thing about that overhead console, it has two dimmer settings: bright and dim. This is NOT controlled by the dash brightness switch that you mentioned in first post. The upper console dims when headlights or parking lights are turned on.

If you had your headlights on, then the upper console will dim and be very hard to see in daylight

True that! But I had to turn the dash dimmer wheel anyway...being thorough. Thanks!
