Is it possible? The 5-speed transmission takes 5.125 pts/2.5 qts.

I just got done doing an auto to 5-speed swap and used about 2 1/2 bottles of mobile 1 gear oil. I had to take down the 5-speed again to change the clutch and pressure plate. I drained it for about 15 minutes and used 2 1/2 qts of gear oil again. I filled it through the shifter.

I have a feeling that a transmission still has some fluid inside of it, even after draining it. So I'm wondering if it's possible that after draining it and adding the 2 1/2 bottle the 2nd time around overfilled it, considering that there may have still been fluid inside .. even though I drained it.

I smell transmission fluid while I'm driving. But then again I don't have any of my shifter boots installed (I can see my transmission from inside the car). I know that can be a factor too, but I just don't think it's normal to smell transmission fluid at all, so I'm wondering if it could have been overfilled enough to make it smell.

Has anye run into issues because of an overfilled transmission? I read somewhere that it's good to drain a transmission for a day before filling it again. In my case, I drained it for about 10-15 minutes.

pull fill plug on level ground, if any runs out it was overfilled, it will stop being over filled when it stops running out. Any smell after that is either a leak or a lack of shifter boot letting the scent vent into the cockpit.

Edit!!!on level ground Duhhh you cant get under the car. on a lift or level on 4 jackstands. I am used to having lifts around.

yeah... filling through the shifter is just never a good idea

filling through the proper hole ensures you fill it to the right level
