Overdrive what??

I just purchased a g20 infiniti 1993 for 400 dollars. the main problem is when im on the highway and going above 65 the rpms are about 5k, and going faster than 65 it doesn't shift? i have an overdrive on my car but when i put it on the dash says o/d off. can anyone help me here?

BY HITTING THE BUTTON ON THE SHIFTER YOUR SHUTTING OFF THE O/D OR TURNING IT ON , WHEN YOU HIT THE BUTTON AND THE O/D OFF APPEARS ON THE CLUSTER YOU TURNED IT OFF.

if it still isnt ingauging then it might be the torque converter not locking up

but when its on it shows off on the shifter, which one do i trust?

Try it both ways. Go out and drive it up to where overdrive should kick in, then try the button both in and out. If the revs drop, it's on, if you're wailing along at a bazillion rpm, then it's not on. I'd think that the dash wouldn't lie. If it wails both ways, your O/D switch may be broken.

i think the o/d is just broken it still hits high rpms on the highway

Whenever you buy an old very used Infiniti just think of the $400 as an entry fee allowing you to spend another $3,000 very soon.

Cars go up for sale WHEN a shop gives them an estimate for more than the vehicle is worth.
