Sometimes when I start my car, the overdrive light flashes on and off a few times. It doesn't do it every time, but seems to be doing it more lately. I haven't noticed anything different in the way the car runs. Should I be concerned?

check your trans fluid level. when it does that it is indicating a problem in the trans that will not let it go into overdrive. once the problem goes away the light stops flashing.

Hmm...I had the trans rebuilt and the fluid was changed then...that wasn't too long ago so I'd imagine the fluid is ok...it's not leaking. may have a bad TCM...could that be part of it?

You guys mean it's not suppose to blink a few times when it starts (kind of like how all the lights on the cluster go on when you put the key in the "on" position)?

I always thought it was just testing the overdrive at that point.

Also, please correct me, but doesn't the overdrive only start kicking in once operating temperature is reached (which may explain why it doesn't always blink every time)?

It is not suppose to blink at all unless theres a problem. It will come on when the key is cyled from off to on though that is a bulb check feature. You are correct about od not kicking in till it reaches operating temp.

uh oh, time to check my transmission :).

Then the overdrive light stays on. So, would that mean there's a problem? I know there is a small leak going on right now with the trans fluid, which I will be taking care of next week, but other than that, I have no idea what would be wrong. I definitely know overdrive is working because when I switch it off there is a huge difference in "feel" and the rpms are at different places during different speeds.
