I just recently finished swapping a de into my 89 hatchback and have a couple of questions. My overdrive doesn't seem to engage until the car is driven for a few miles. I have read that this could be it has not warmed to operating temperature seeing how it is still cold here in NY. I have seen the O/D light blink on and off and have read in one post that this indicates a sereis of error codes. I have also put a brand new battery in now it seems that my battery light is coming on. Finally my questions..Could the two of these problems be related? What should I look for first? I have checked the voltage on the battery and it is reading 14 volts which seems to me that everything is okay. I was told that because the car has sat for a long time that things could have rusted up (alternator brushes) which could cause the light to come on sometimes. I am just wondering if the alternator is going would that have an effect on the overdrive because it is electronic? Sorry for rambling on but any help would GREATLY appreciated. I have searched alot and can't find anyone that has answered these particular questions. Thanks in advance.

Check your alt. connections make sure they are all pluged in securly. Then if that doesn't work i would suggeest changing your batttery +and- wires if not that then you might need a new alt. but thats all i can say for now. need more info and if anyone else knows about this prob. feel free to help out

Gnarkiller...I replaced the battery the other day and it's still the same thing. It runs strong and the headlights are bright so it doesn't seem to be draining the battery. I dunno. I guess I will just have to keep an eye on it. Thanks for the help.
