A friend has a nissan picup with a KA in it. Not sure of the year, but his voltage meter in the cluster reads close to 18V.

Would this be the votage regulator, alternator, or battery?

Or if no real sure answer, which is more likely to be the first place this would happen? The truck runs real funny and sometimes cuts out and other weird stuff. So any heads up would be great.

Voltage regulator is what keeps the voltage at 14.4V. So if it's higher than that, your regulator is shot.

Sometimes weird things happen with too much charge, so see how it runs after that is fixed.

V/R is internal in the altenator.

if the battery is shot, the alternator will jack the voltage up to try to charge the battery.

if the battery is fine, then the alternator needs replacement.
