i heard you can only go 1mm over on inlet side and maybe 2mm over on exhaust.... i wonder if you could use the bigger inlet valves on the exhaust side??

From what i know there arent any companies that make oversize valves for a CA18, not here in australia anyways.

Have you ever built a CA before and if so, what kind of power have you extracted from it. The reason I ask this is, whilst monitoring the forum members' requests, I see you inquiring about all the good stuff for a CA, but I don't see you mentioning your goals or even how you plan on controlling it and for what purpose will you be needing such an engine. Is it for bragging rights?

There are many people here who yearn for that famous 9000rpm claim, but is not prepared to pay the price to get there and get there while being able to use that much rpm effectively. I'm not trying to bust your balls dude, but I really think you should probably just get a CA18DET and learn how to extract good/clean power from it before you go flickin' dollars into something that will be experimental. You have to crawl before you walk and it's very hard to skate uphill. Good luck on your quest, though!

P.S. You don't really need bigger valves in this head if you got a really hot valve train set-up (ie, solid lifters, heavy duty valve springs, hot cams, serious porting and massive machine work to the head); I have a fully built CA that was built over 4 years ago and will more than likely let you rev to 10,000rpm, but I'm in no rush to use because there's still alot to learn before I risk experimenting on an engine that cost me nearly $6000 between the head and the block alone.

i figured while everything is out ..it be nice to do everything at once ...this will be my first time with ca18det ......and yes i needa crawl before i walk ....my power figures are 250-350wHP ...safely.....i figured i should just build it to take anything ......then i dont have to worry much later with the right tuning .... i plan to go stand alone also.......theres a shop in LA,ca thats going to help me with the tuning on haltech......

the motor is going into my ae86....and i plan to auto x and drift weekends every chance i get ....i dont think i will be needing the whole 10k rpm as i dont htink my turbo will handle that kind of abuse 8k or a tiny bit higher is good with me....the car will never see the street ....im striving for response.....

........i also linked up with a great machine shop CASCAR in SAc, ca that will be also helping me build and machine this motor......and put together some of the things that i cant do right at home

reason why i ask is yes its because im inexperienced ......but i want to do it right the first time .....with all your help......i can put together a respectable motor that will suit my wwants .......just another car enthusiast seeking knowledge from others.....thoughts opinions and tips are greatly apprieciated and will be remembered......im working on my motor build right now......and im not going to yank the info and ditch it like some others......just trying to get a blessing from the CA18det gods (BOOST BOY and FLOAT 69 69)

besides it a hobby car .....i will building it slowly ....and i dont care if it takes me years to build .....money is no issue ....im already to far in....and there no turning back ....

as for valves .....should i do the clay test with everything put together ...to see how much clearance i have ? its the only safest way i can think of ....unless someone has experience in it

standard valves are absolutely fine for WAY more power than that

Im slowly on my way to CA18 god status! You wait and see!@#$%^ lol...

But i dont think you need anything too crazy if youre just starting off. I agree with the other guys that you must crawl before you walk. Id work from the bottom and work my way up, atleast thats what i realized considering this is my first serious car project and theres a lot of money and knowledge in it already so i would hate to blow or mess something up even before i get started, you know what im saying?! But if you do decide to dump a lot of money into it, just make sure you do it right! Have a professional inspect and go over your work. We'd hate to see you come back here post something about your motor going bad.
