over revving at 2k rpm?!? whats wrong?

I can start the car just fine and whenever im driving or just on neutral and revving the engine to around 2k, it seems like im redlining cause it bounces up and down at 2k rpm and refuses to go any higher and the highest speed I got out of it is 30 mph. I rushed it to my mechanic as soon as I got the problem and right now its sitting at the shop. Does anyone know what the problem might be? thanks

Sounds like Mass Air Flow meter issues. The car is in limp mode. Have your mechanic verify the meter\connector\wiring. Maybe the connector just came loose.

do you have an intake or anything? That is exactly what my car did when the cone filter fell off my intake. So, like said above, check the intake and MAFS.

well all the connectors are fine and yes I do have an intake, AEM short-ram intake, its been working fine for about 4 months now.....could anything else be the problem?

you need to start with the MAF as mentioned above, that is #1 most likely, then check things like crank angle sensor and stuff like that

Check your ECU for codes....I don't know what engine or model your driving but on mine it was code 12, and revved to 2500.

mine is a 93' 240sx hb SE KA24DE engine, sorry if I forgot to mention that

well my mechanic called me to pick up my car and when I got to the shop he told me it was indeed the MAF but it was also caused my a bad fuel pump and filter so got those replaced and cleaned out the intake for insurance that it wouldn't happen again so problem solved. thanks everyone who helped and helped diagnosed the problem
