The threads that hold the cam capson and rocker shafts. 3 stripped on intake side 2 on exhaust . Car ran home, but very weak should i replace the head or should i be able to repair and reinstall with new caps and rockers.

also one of the valve springs on the intake side looks like its retainer allowed it to rise some .

Any one think i can get away with repairing it or is it just a waste of time.:help

Wow, you mean it stripped the bolts holding the cam bearings down? In any case, the fact that you broke several things means that all the others were probably close and have begun to yield--they're loose.. Also, the camshafts and bearings might be scored or damaged and aren't usable. The real problem I see is with manufacturing tolerances. The clearances between the bearings and the camshaft is about .002-.003". The only way the manufacturers achieve this is to machine the head and bearings while they're bolted together. If you wanted to fix the head, you would have to do so while keeping the bearings dead nuts with where they're supposed to be. Not saying it can't be done, but I'm guessing it's not worth it considering the difficulty along with what else might be wrong with the head.

thats what i was thinking. its disassembled and the backthree caps have light scoring ihave another valve train with new caps rockers springs the cam looks like it is not scored if i put caps that are good but from anothervalvetrain could i get by without hurting the block(oil pressure). What i mean is does the bottom end get oil pressure first or the head.the car did make it home just weak and idled like crap.

I thought oil pressure varies little throughout the engine. If you open up the bearing gap somewhere, the oil pressure will drop everywhere. I don't think you can swap bearings like that, since they're all match-machined. If you bolt the bearings down without the camshafts, run your finger along the inner bore and feel for any ridges at the seam. Put the camshafts in and use some plastiguage on all bearings to check clearances, in addition to comparing inside and outside measurements. Also, lube it all up and make sure the camshafts rotate freely without any binding. The first test, just feeling the inner bore, will probably prevent further investigation.

Is that more for sealing head gasket leaks? This is the stuff you used?
