I just recently bought an s14. It seems to run fine but it over heats when i take it on the high way. This is the only time it overheats, it gives me no problems in city driving. The only thing i know is wrong with it is that the guy who sold it to me said it had a clogged cat. Im thinking there might be something wrong with the thermostate, but then why is it fine in city driving. Also a new waterpump was installed just before i bought it, i was thinking maybe he screwed something up when he installed it, but i cant think what. Wondering if you guys might have any idea whats wrong. Im thinking its either the new waterpump, thermostate, or the clogged cat is somehow causeing it.

Is the waterpump leaking, if not then you can go from there. If you can spare the money I would say replace your radiator cap, thermostat, and do a coolant fluch and re-fill. It could also be a clogged heater core not letting the fluid thru it or back out of it to the engine.

If you have to get a new waterpump they are under $40

Radiator cap $15-$25

Thermostat is about $15-$20

I would most definitely agree with you. I bought my car from a guy and it was running fine for about 3 months and then it started overheating. I got the thermostat replaced, new water pump, etc. Check your radiator cap, hoses, leakage in the radiator. My dad said he switched his cat off or bypassed it because he was having a similar problem and he car runs just fine.
