Hey I have a 1991 240 SE with 147,000 miles and recently the temperate starts climbing up until about the "H" and so I shut the car off and let it coast and I turn it back up so it drops a bit. I also have the heater on to help a bit. After a few minutes it goes back to normal temp, but I havent driven it since that. I dont know what it could be, the fan goes on. Maybe you guys can help me out. Thanks.

well usually when you overheat... there is a bunch of air in your cooling system

now either you changed coolant but did not burp the system, you've developed a leak and its sucking air in exchange for lost coolant, or you have a warped head or blown headgasket

five seconds of searching woulda got you that, but thats about all that cant go on if you were at speed and it started to overheat

Please learn and perform basic maintenance to your car. Change your coolant when you do your oil every time. It's cheap protection and some peace of mind. Try taking out your thermostat, you'll never get anywhere near over heating again. You live in Florida, cold does not exist in your state. (meaning you don't need your thermostat ever)

Yea, either take out the thermostat or buy a NISSAN DEALERSHIP!!! thermostat. My car was overheating off and on when I first got it, turned out the previous owner bought a cheap Autozone or O Reillys thermostat and it wasn't opening up all the way. Also while you have the coolant out it may not be a bad idea to flush your radiator, change temperature sensor, thermostat, and waterpump. This will hopefully save you some headaches down the line.

deffinatly check your water pump.. that was my problem... and besides the fact that there was NO RELAY! for my electric fan..(wtf?) but i have a 91 240 sx se and im at 150k.. same thing was happening to me my water pump seal was totally gone and the fins in my water pump were all corroded and just crump... check for any dripping coolant... so yeah... like tulsa said.. check those... alls i did though was change water pump and put in a new relay... dont forget to flush after words though...
