Whenever the thermometer climbs above 85 degrees my 1993 300ZX convertable runs hot. The temperature gauge does not spike but it does move closer to the H end then it is to the middle.

This only occurs at idle or low speeds (stop and roll traffic). At highway or even city street speed the temperature returns to normal.

Has any one else experienced this condition?

Sounds like you need to change your coolant. Change that and that should help. If it doesn't, you might need to change the water pump. How long has it been since you changed that?

do you have an electric fan? if so put the mechanical fan back on!

bottom line is at idle your not moving enough air through the radiator to cool the engine, at speeds the air gets forced through and cools the engine, a clogged radiator can also be a problem
