Ok I think I messed up my beloved 240! I went to warm it up in my garage and then went up stairs to get a quick bite to eat. I was talking to my mom and forgot about the car running. It was on for 45 min. When I get there the temp is on the H and coolant all over the floor. I turned the car off and put in cool water. I let it cool down for about an hour or so and then turned it on. I seemed fine but with my luck something went. What should I check. I will be doing a compression test tomorrow morning, but I need to know what else to check. I know I have to check my electric fan cuz it didn't turn on!! thanks

the biggest mistake anyone can make is pouring in cool water into an overheated engine. If the engine wasn't damaged by the overheating, it sure as hell could get damaged by the cool water.

Putting cool water in an overheating motor tends to crack heads or blocks.

:withstup Its like shocking the block. Same reason you dont spray a engine with cold water while its off.

Ouch! Well, anytime you overheat and you want to put in cool water, make sure the engine is running. If the engine is on it'll be ok granted you don't have a coolant leak... then you can forget about it.

no..regardless of it the engine is running or not, cool water is NEVER a good idea. The engine must be left to cool down on it's own.
