output shaft installation???

I have removed the drivers side output shaft (drive shaft) to install an faulty oil seal, I have installed seal, I cannot seem to fit the drive shaft into the transmission and get to align, what is the deal with the ring??? Any advice>

by "ring" do you mean the seal or the clip on the shaft itself? but if you have not replaced an axle before you have to put the axle in the trans, keep it held up, and tap it in with a hammer so it fully seats into the trans. But you have to be careful doing that so you don't mess the threads up and causing you to not be able to get the axle nut back on.
