Out with the old...

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

My 2008 EX35 AWD journey just hit 83K miles and I am itching to upgrade since I am approaching that dreaded 100K milestone and want to maximize resale value.

KBB gives me a ~13k figure for a private sale. Anyone recently sell a similar format EX35? Not sure what levers I have to pull to get the most $$$ since I have taken extremely good care of this beast.

I wanted to look at the QX50s this weekend but from what I have heard - aside from the 3.7L V6 and a little length updates they have not done much in terms of changes from 2008 models. Anyone drive one of these recently? Thoughts? My local dealers are real @ssholes so I might wait until I can test out some of these new twin turbo V6 monsters coming out.

I am glad the 2016 and the 2008 are still nearly identical. Wonderful for those of us that have nice 2008's in great shape! I pulled up next to a 2016 recently and told them mine was built about 9 years ago and they said, DANG! It looks like brand new other than the badge and lack of HID running lights. I would HATE to have pay for a brand new 2016 that was virtually indistinguishable from the car released at the end of 2007!... But I am thrilled my 8-9 year old car still looks like a brand new version!
I would lean towards the Q30x now

For me they killed the EX/QX since they had to raise the vehicle an inch to get that 3 inch length increase (that's what i read anyway, don't know why). This thing already leans like heck in turns, I imagine the new one is more than horrible, and drives more like a suv than a car. Plus the vehicle looks like crap with the larger gap in the wheel wells. They would have had to increase the tire height to fill the extra inch gap, but they didnt. Looks horrible.

I live in a Condo/townhouse type and neighbors don't get to see more often driving their cars if their unit is on the other side of the complex. About 2 months ago our condo president needed to hand me some bill info and I was driving the EX35. The first thing he asked me was , " New Car? "

He was shocked when I told him I bought the car in 2008 of Sept. (Rims were taken from my 2015 Q40)

Looks good AWG, Classy rims.

Anyone run into issues with the driver side locks? After this latest new england freeze I am no longer able to open the drivers side door from the outside. However, I can use the fob to roll down the windows and open from the inside or have the passanger do it. It's the strangest thing. Not sure if I need to replace the whole lock assembly or something got snapped on the outside door handle...

Height increase is nominal (0.8 inches, with no change in ground clearance) and is not related to the increase in wheelbase and length (for which there is virtually unanimous agreement that the added length was a very good move to correct the most common complaint of lack of leg room in rear).

The nominal increase in height was part of a plan to make the 2016 model look a little more rugged. Reviews mostly agree the driving dynamics are still among the best in the class, even if most doubt that the car will be a big seller.

Here are a couple that include discussion of reasons for the nominal increase in height:

I am seeing a lot of QX50 ads and lots of 2016 driving around... Very surprising and nice to see.

Yes, I had that problem during the 2014-15 winter when windchill went low as -50F.

I could not open the driver side door from the outside and 50/50 chance to open from the inside. The only way to open it up was to leave the car inside the garage so ambiemt temp. goes up , then problem is gone!

If you do a search under frozen door lock you will see a series of posts in relation to my having the same problem last year.

Saw a 2016 go by today. The only really noticeable difference was the grill. A bit too much bling I think for the car. I agree that it is good that our cars do not look out of step with the newer model, and I am happy that Infiniti seems committed to the platform. I suppose that eventually they will change the styling to put it more in line with the Q50, and eventually migrate the newer power trains over as well. If they really want to be competitive with the BMW, Audi and Acura they will have to do so, but Infiniti seems to go longer periods without styling changes than anyone other than Volvo.

I just traded in my 2008 EX35 AWD Journey Premium Package for $12.2k a couple of weeks ago. 63k miles and in excellent condition except that it needed new brakes and likely rotors all the way around and had a small windshield chip. This was negotiated separately from the purchase price of the new car, so I think it's a pretty accurate price for a trade. They wholesaled it off immediately because it was a Midwest car and I'm now in the Pacific Northwest.

Compared to a private sale, I probably only gave up $250 in a best case scenario after taking into account the tax benefits of a trade-in. I feared it could be a tough car to sell since the EX is not popular with the public. It was a no-brainer to trade it in.

There isn't anything out there that can touch this in the used market for $13K ! I am keeping mine for a long time... It still looks fresh! Not a single door ding and only a few minor hood chips. It seriously looks pretty new when I wash & detail her.
I will sell my wife's RX soon and give this to her. It will be like she is getting a new car....and then I will get myself something REAL fun like the new Civic type R... SHAWD and turbo. That thing will kill almost anything on the road and the SI gearbox is smooth as butter....but I digress. :)
