My question is I have an 06 M45 with 58,000 miles. The factory warranty will be up soon. I'm not sure if I want to pay the $2,400 for the extended warranty. If I had a problem with the car after 60,000 mile could I take the car to a local garage? Maybe not Pep boys but a Jap car garage.

I was thinking of getting the warranty but I don't think I'll keep the car for more than another year or two.

I live in Orlando Florida. So if anyone knows of a good garage hit me up.

Many Thanks....

The car is yours so if there is a problem, the choice is yours where to take it. If the car has been maintained properly and not driven really hard, the likelihood of major problem within a year or two is small. But of course, you'll never know.

Somewhere within this forum, there is a thread about extended warranty from Infiniti. They recommended Courtney, phone 480-941-0055. As of April' 09, a 3-year/36,000 miles extended warranty with $100 deductible goes for $2028. The warranty period begins at the date of purchase and it is transferable.

Just like you, I'm on the fence right now whether to get an extended warranty or not (M35 with @ 58K miles). I have had extended warranties before but never used them. I do most of my car maintenance.

My question is will a local garage be able to work on an M or is it a must to take to a certified infiniti tech.

Thanks...

If you can financially manage the 2k for a warranty, I would say go for it. If you cannot swing the 2k you will need to allocate some rainy day repair funds.

The M45 was almost $70,000 (depending on options) 3.5 years ago, and as such the repairs are expensive. The M45 is not something many independent shops see many of them. I would not trust mine to someone who doesn't know these cars inside and out.

A transferable warranty will also improve your return when you do go to sell it. Unlike many modifications an actual transferable extended warranty from a reputable company will set your car apart from a sea of sameness.

If you want proof of this search the internet for Certified Infiniti M45s and compare the price to private sale models.

I've been working on these cars for years and I have seen them do all kinds of things and even if you have a $100 deductible that comes out to <1hr of dianostic labor. And really don't you think your M deserves proper care. If you final intention is to sell it when the potential buyers ask for your service records and you provide them with hand written receipts from the local gas station it doesn't really indicate proper maintenance. Just my 0.02

Like you, I have an 06 M35 with the 4 year portion of the warranty ending in August. Since my focus is on engine and drive train, the show stoppers, I plan on waiting an additional two years(just prior to engine and drive train warranty lapse) to purchase extended coverage. Thus, if something happens to the electronics or other miscellaneous during the interval, I have to go out of pocket or exclude that item from extended coverage. The purpose of this is to try and keep the coverage on engine and drive train going to something approaching 100K. Courtney told me that the only problem with this lapse in coverage was that an inspection was required to qualify for further warranty. She further mentioned that the limits to coverage were 100K mileage and 9 yrs.

Well I bought my 06 M45 with the Tech package for $21,500 with 50,000 miles. I think I got a pretty good deal so I need to invest the money I saved on the purchase towards the Elite warrenty.

$21,500 not to bad.....

Since buying my Q45 in 1990 ~~ 19.5 years and 322,000 miles ago I have spent out of pocket ~$45,000 or 13 cents per mile. The first 100k was 8 cents per mile, obviously it gets more and more expensive as inflation increases subsequent years. Labor has doubled per hour and parts have gone up 60%.

What use to be $100 tires are now $200+.

We always recommend customers save $200 per month for repairs and expect some $6,000 years...............heck a transmission costs $4500 with discounts.

Does that includes repair only or does that including regular maintenance, gas, insurance and other stuffs like registration, wax, wash and so on....?

Also, was the cost for DIY or have a shop do them... or maybe a combination?

i was under the naive impression that the powertrain on these vehicles are mostly bullet proof and the expensive items were more likely to be electronics...

That is true in general... and it is very hard to fix electronic items without all the diagnostic tools - even if you do, it just ends up replacing them anyway.

The $45,000 was mainteances and repairs: NO GASOLINE, no insurance, no annual taxes or tag fees no car wash no wax no interior clean.

Add $16,000 for insurance, another $38,000 for gasoline, $4800 for washes, $2000 for tag tax, To $41,000 [including sales tax paid cash no financing] to purchase and it comes to roughly $147,000 plus some aftermarket things I added back in 1994 say $3,600 so $151,000 averaged $7743 per year.

Pretty cheap compared with buying a new lux V8 cruiser every 3-5 years.Which can cost $10>$12,000 per year.Remember the average car in US is now 9.8 years old so a 19.5 year old car is not too out of line.

Over the past 10 years I have collected what would retail for $15,000 [I paid less than $2,000] worth of good used parts for future repairs.

Add up 12 sets of tires, 5 sets of shocks, 12 sets of brakes, 8 sets of rotors and retrueing them every 10-12k, a diff a 240k, a driveshaft at 170k, a transmission after the extended replacement of a previous one, along with a radiator, upper links every 30k, tension rods every 60k, third members, wheel bearings. 3 fuel pumps, wind regulators, radios, speakers, etc, etc.................80 synthetic oil changes is $6,000 vs $3200.

Nothing inside engine has been replaced except chain guides for $1500, 5 fuel injectors, harnesses, knock sensors.

Historically parts have run 55% and labor 45% so using T3 reduced labor cost [ $45> $85 per hour over 12 years] ~ $5300 by not using dealer.
