i was just wondering how hard it is to maintain the rb's. is it just like any other turbo'd engine? or does it tend to break down/act up more?

Everyday last year, only had two issues. Coolant line exploding, and fried my fan relays, other than that, all good.

I have had my car for a little over 2.5 years, and have never had any problems with it that I didn't cause myself (Didn't get the coil pack plugs in tight, and it ran like a$$, and I was running regular gas, instead of the hi-oc and had some knocking). Only time it was down was while I was in the states the begining of May, and a friend took care of it for me. So, runs like a champ every day.

It's been a fantastic engine and seems like it still has lots of life left in her.

1990 Nissan Laurel Club S turbo, RB20DET.

yea but how much boost are you running and how often did you beat on it? lol those two things really tear your car up if you dont have the right parts!

When I have my boost controller turned on, I have it set between .85 bar and .90 bar. I don't "beat" on it perse, but I accelerate quickly quite abit, drive hard quite regularly, and when I go to get on the highway, I romp on it alot. But I also do my preventive maintence. Oil every 5,000k. Just did my transmission and rear diff fluids last week.

The car has over 125,000 kilos on it.

I am very fortunate to have a company car right now. Before that, I drove it 365... rain snow sleet.. you name it.

Great driving motor. 14psi with a garbage tune. Ill be going back to having it as my daily within the next few months. Can't say I am disappointed to have to use it as my daily again. I beat the crap out of my car btw.

I would swap my car again in a second. Sometimes I wish I would have gone turbo KA for some reason.. parts are easier to find (this has never been a problem).

I drive mine every day. It has been running since April of 2005. No problems what-so-ever. I use to have an ever so slightly creeping up temp gauge, but that was due to one of my Flex-a-lite fans going bad. And when I first completed the swap, the new water pump leaked. Come to find out I was given one for an RB25. So I pulled out the one bolt that was leaking, shot a ton of Ultra-grey in there, and put the bolt back in. Fine and dandy ever since. This prevented me from pulling the timing belt off. I still have the same SPEC Stage 2 clutch in the RB26 since Day 1. It has over 45+ passes down the 1/4 mile, with launches at 5000 RPMS.

mine's been good to me as well. granted i replaced everything I could besides the oil pump before the swap. Had a turbo take a dump on me, but I probably should not run the stock ones every day at 14psi :-)keep the oil changed every 2500 miles, good oil and filter, have proper cooling and all should be well unless you get a devil engine.
