I would guess you can wire it to trick the system into thinking it's in park at all times. Then you would be able to put the top up while moving.

read this thread to see how the wiring works.

Since you included this part.. I'm sure I don't need to warn you that putting ANY wind resistance against the top while it's trying to go up is hard on it and could lead to premature failure.

Thanks Eikon,

I guess no one has done it before yet?

when you do a 5-speed swap, one of the things you need to do is splice two wires together to fool your car into thinking it is in park. I don't see why this trcik wouldn't work if it was still an auto. Click on the link below (my sig) and I have a pic of what needs to be spliced. Also, check the thread for "5 speed swap" for thorough details.

That said - I agree that it's a dumb idea. One time....when I had my Eclipse...I attempted this same thing...and it was hacked too...so I could pull it up. Tell me why the ****ing top arm broke midway...and I felt gay as hell...(I tried to put it down in front of some chicks).

240's top is pretty big because it's 4 seater. If you try to close the top while car is running, top will work like huge parachute and catch a lot of wind. We all know top mechanism is not super strong on our 240, so most likely arms will snap and you won't be able to find a part or repair it perfect. I wouldn't even think about making it that way. On the other hand, some cars you can close top while car is running. They have Z-shaped top mechanism such as Porsche droptops.

Seriously...I was cruising and **** and tried to pull it down. One side went down longer than the other...next thing I know - snap! I felt like such a poseur dude...I was horrified.

I was wondering the same thing about dropping the top while in motion. I always find myself wanting to drop it while backing up, or when pulling up to a red light. I wouldn't care to park if I wanted to put it up...it's putting it down that I want to do. So any parachute action should just help drop it faster right ?

no - it will just help your threads to pull apart and damage your top quicker.

when i went 5 spd i never dropeed it doin any faster than 5mph but this is only goot if you dont want to have to put it in park everytime at the stoplight to put it down it just saved a little time when your coming up to a light and your not sure if its gonna change yet or not but goin more than 5 mph is a big no no even at 5mph you can get a big gust of wind and considering the tops have a problem with the littl front brackets breaking i wouldnt recomend it
