first, the poll:

have you ever busted an oil pan?

next, the story:

me and my friend where driving around today, 'cause I needed to go buy a hard drive for my new computer. we turned down this one street we've never been down before, and near the end there was an intersection where the people going accross had a stop sign, and there where some big humps in a row in the road, 3 of them. the kind of humps where you could get some air if you hit it right. so me and my friend went over them at like 20. then turned around and went over them again at like 20. and then a 3rd time at like 27. then the 4th time, I have no idea how fast we where going. it was below 50, but I kinda turned through them so I wouldn't take the hit head on. went over the first one, hit it pretty good. then the second one came and it felt like I got some air off of it. then I landed on the 3rd bump really f-ing hard. so hard, that my wipers turned on and the faceplate to my stereo flew off. when I got home and looked under my car, of course there was a nice puddle of oil forming

and for the last part:

about how much do 1990 240 oil pans cost, and what are dry sump options?ever busted an oil pan?

yeah, that sucks, but you gotta admit it was pretty stupid for you to be doing that in the first place. I don't know about prices for oil pans, but I know they are a pain to remove. you almost have to pull the whole motor to get at it.

Sounds fun, and sounds expensive. Not that expensive, but more than I would want to pay for something so easily avoidable :pface

There should be a Darwin Award for cars.

You'd win. :D

Never jumped in my Nissan, but I jumped my old 89 Buick Skylark multiple times with many of those times having all 4 tires off the ground. That might explain why my shocks became so soft :)

I've jumped a 1990 camry several times as well as an 02 Blazer unintentionally (I went to make a yellow light and forgot about the HUGE hump in the road and hit it going like 60) The camry always landed hard but the blazer landed like a feather :) until I rolled it...speaking of, my insurance dropped me today...stupid ****s.

I was just thinking I should get a trophy for stupidist move of the month.

the jumping of my car wouldn't have been so bad if there weren't 3 of them in a row, the last two being really close together.

leason learned: 240's don't come rally-ready from the factory. maybe I should fix that... rally 240!
