just wondering if anyone runs anything other than the redline mt-90 or amsoil 75w-90? neither is sold locally, which isn't that big a deal, but both can get quite expensive, especially for me since i have 3 Nissan's and Toyota pickup that all require gl-4 oil. ive been doing some searching and haven't come up with very much in the terms of "regular cheap" straight gl-4, non multi compatible oils, ie gl-3, 4, and 5. just about everything is synthetic and expensive now. i have found one, http://www.penngrade1.com/Products/Gear ... 80W90.aspx, i can get it for 6.99 a quart but i really cant find any info/reviews or anyone that has used it. looks like exactly what i need, but words on paper are exactly that.

I run Pennzoil Synchromesh, I can find it at the local Autozone here.

Never heard of Penngrade.

I've got royal purple.

Not because I cared to get royal purple, but because it's the only gl4 my autozone had in stock when I did my gear oil.

It's gl4/5, maybe it's ruining crap. I get little grinds if I don't shift sensually.

It cost a bloody fortune, too. Because I can't imagine there's much difference between it and other good quality oils that meet the gl4 spec, I would reccomend against it. Pretty strongly, actually, just because of the price.

ive heard of running Synchromesh before and read a few reviews about it being too thin, how long have you been running it? i will research this more though.

i will never run purple junk again. I've lost 2 transmissions because of that crap, and a few others to other cheaper brands. found out the hard way anything that says it does multiple gl services, ie 3,4,&5 or 4&5 will eat the brass. it has to be specifically gl-4 only.

i do alot of spirited driving, autoX, towing and the truck see's the mud too so i do frequent maintenance, but its killing me on the amount of money im spending. i like to change the fluid at the hint of grinding, and normally the fluid is dirty by then anyways.

You think it's that bad? I though part of meeting the gl4 spec was having the low acidity, even if it still meets the gl5 spec.

I suppose I'll change it out whet I check out compression and do general tuneup things, after this semester.

I run syncromesh in nearly all my MT's. My brother used it in his 240 for at least two years.
