OT - Second vehicle

I am going to be getting an $8,000 first time home buyer's credit soon and I REALLY need a second vehicle. I am considering a scooter for under $3,000, but I'm concerned about safety and all the flaming hoops you have to jump through to get an M1 license. There is also the possibility of a used car... like a 2005 Corolla (Which was my grandmother's, by the way) with low miles for around $8,000.

What would you do in my situation?

I got my '07 Versa for $8500 with 23k miles. Auto locks and windows, 6sp MT.

But the 2005 corolla sounds like a good deal. Especially if its only grannie driven miles, those are the best.

Used 90s civic, sentra, etc for like $3-4k and use the rest of the money on something else.

If you want a scooter get one! The motorcycle tests and license aren't that hard to get. Just take the class offered by the state and you'll be set. I'd get something a little bigger though, harley has their sportsters 889 for 7899. Or get a Ninja/SV500 something in that range that would be great transportation for CA.

If you want fuel economy then corolla. If you want a well built with some goodies then I say 00-02 g20. They are a bit slow but leather, power seats, climate control and the reliability of the sr20de. I'm biased though. I own two of them.
